Hello! I'm Chris, a game developer from Auckland, New Zealand.
In 2006, some friends and I founded a studio called Grinding Gear Games to develop the online dark fantasy Action RPG Path of Exile. It won GameSpot's PC Game of the Year upon release in 2013, and later received a BAFTA in the Evolving Game category in 2020.
I presented a popular talk at the 2019 Game Developers Conference called Designing Path of Exile to be Played Forever, which explained how we managed to release a new Path of Exile expansion every 13 weeks.
After running Grinding Gear Games for 17 years, I stepped down at the end of 2023.
I am a trustee of the Chris Wilson Charitable Trust, which runs a program called KeaCoding. We provide free weekly programming lessons to around 130 young children in schools across Auckland.
My hobbies include maintaining my extensive Magic: the Gathering card collection, hobby programming in Rust, and having strong opinions about online game security.
